LANTITE practice test: literacy and numeracy, full length, timed

A LANTITE practice test on PassToTeach is a complete sitting, not a question list: 65 questions in 120 minutes, in the screen format ACER publishes, for literacy or numeracy. Numeracy gives you 52 questions with a calculator that behaves like ACER's, including the % key, then 13 without, and section 1 locks the moment you start section 2. Your first full test is free.

Free sign-up, no card. Literacy or numeracy, your choice.

Each sitting of the LANTITE itself costs A$98 per test (A$196 for both) in 2026, and if you miss the standard you re-sit the whole component. Meet the clock, the calculator and the lock here first.

    What each practice test includes

ACER publishes one full practice test per component, free, and you should sit it; our free LANTITE practice test guide lists everything else ACER gives away. We built four more of each. That's eight full forms at launch, and your one free test is Form A of either component. Every form is a complete sitting:

    • 65 questions, one 120-minute clock, after a short untimed tutorial. That's under two minutes a question.
    • ACER's navigation. Numbered boxes across the top turn black once a question is answered; click one to go back within the section. Questions come in sets, with the set name and "question x of y".
    • No flag button. ACER describes none, so our timed tests have none. ACER's advice: note the question number and return to it.
    • A clock you can't pause. It runs on our server. Close the tab and it keeps going, with your answers saved as you go. At 120:00 the test submits itself.

We tallied the answer formats in ACER's own 2019 practice tests. Literacy: 50 multiple choice, 7 grids, 8 typed words. Numeracy: 32 numeric answers, 21 grids, 12 multiple choice. Our forms keep that mix: all four literacy forms match it exactly, and each numeracy form is within one question of it.

Every question is ours. ACER's live questions are secure and change every sitting, so ours were written for these forms, and before a form went in, every question was answered again in a blind check that never saw our key. Every answer matched.

Numeracy: the calculator and the section lock

Section 1 has 52 questions and an on-screen calculator. Section 2 has 13 and no calculator at all, and personal calculators aren't allowed on test day. One clock covers both: ACER suggests about 90–95 minutes for section 1 and 25–30 for section 2.

Our calculator follows ACER's on-screen calculator guide: the same keys in the same order, from Mem Enter to the = key, with order of operations. It opens from an icon at the top right, drags out of the way, takes the mouse or the keyboard, and pastes into your answer box with Use calculator value. It closes when you move to the next question, as ACER's does, so paste your result first.

    Then there's the % key. ACER's own example: 1250 − 15% returns 1249.85, not 1062.50, because the key turns 15% into 0.15. Ours does the same. To take 15% off, enter 1250 × 0.85.

Moving to section 2 brings up a confirm dialog. Confirm, and section 1 is closed for good, as on test day. Skip a section 1 question to save time and you can't come back for it once section 2 starts.

Answers go in numbers-only boxes with the units outside. Type a $ sign or a word and you get a pop-up, and nothing is saved, as ACER describes. We mark by value, so 338.4 and 338.40 both count; ACER doesn't publish its own rule. Topic by topic, the LANTITE numeracy practice test page covers what section 1 and section 2 ask.

Dialog before numeracy section 2: once you start section 2 you can't return to section 1.

Literacy: reading sets and the technical skills of writing

About two-thirds of the literacy test is reading. Questions come in sets on one text, and ACER says there may be eight or more about a single text. Each of our literacy forms has 44 reading questions in seven units: long texts of roughly 500 to 900 words, plus tables and mixed texts, with up to ten questions on one text. Every text sits in its own scrolling pane. ACER strongly recommends reading the whole text before the questions, so practise doing it against the same clock.

The other 21 questions test the technical skills of writing: spelling, grammar and punctuation, word usage and text organisation. Typed-word questions give you a sentence; type the one corrected word, or N if there's no error. Grids want a choice on every row, and a half-answered grid gets a pop-up instead of a black box. How your results work

Practice result from our model — not an ACER result. ACER publishes no pass mark; it reports only whether you met the standard.

ACER's statement shows no score at all: met or not met, with a band for each sub-domain. Ours gives you the numbers. Each result shows your score out of 65 and a band for the test: Below, Around or Above the standard (our estimate). Elite shows all seven sub-domains your ACER statement uses, each with its own score and band: Reading and Technical Skills of Writing; Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, Statistics and Probability, Calculator Available and Calculator not Available.

The cut-offs come from the raw-score ranges ACER publishes for its own practice tests, which ACER calls indicative, not determinative. For literacy we set them slightly higher for now: a literacy Above takes 53 of 65 here, not the 50 in ACER's ranges. We'll recalibrate once candidates' results come in.

You also see how long each section took, so you can set numeracy section 1 against ACER's suggested 90–95 minutes, and how many questions you left blank. Nothing is deducted for a wrong answer, so a blank is a mark thrown away. Once 30 candidates have completed a form, Elite adds your percentile on it, counted from first attempts only. Every cut-off and rule: how we score.

    LANTITE practice test FAQ

    Does PassToTeach use ACER's questions?

No. Every question here is original, written in the formats ACER publishes. ACER's live questions are secure and change every sitting, and trying to copy or memorise them is misconduct under ACER's rules. ACER's own practice tests are free on ACER's site.

How many practice tests are there?

Eight at launch. Four literacy forms and four numeracy forms, each a full sitting; your one free test is Form A of either, and Elite opens all eight with unlimited retakes.

Are the practice tests harder or easier than the LANTITE?

Nobody outside ACER can say for certain, because the live questions are secure. We aim at the difficulty mix in ACER's assessment framework. Our blind checks rated our literacy forms easier than that mix, about one level on the Australian Core Skills Framework by the checkers' estimates, which is why our literacy cut-offs sit higher for now.

Can I do it on my phone?

Yes. Texts and questions stack on a small screen and the calculator opens as a panel. Still, sit at least one full test on a computer, because that's how you'll sit the LANTITE itself: at a test centre, or at home on your own computer.

Does a practice result tell me how I'll go on the day?

No. Practice result from our model — not an ACER result. ACER publishes no pass mark; it reports only whether you met the standard. Use your result to find the sub-domain that costs you most.

What if I fail the LANTITE?

Sit it again. Attempts have been unlimited since 2025: you re-sit the whole component in a later window and pay the fee again. A component you've met never expires, so you never sit that one again.
