PassToTeach FAQ: LANTITE Practice, Adjustments, Exemptions and Refunds
Straight answers about PassToTeach, what our practice results mean, LANTITE adjustments and exemptions, and what you pay. The awkward questions too.
About PassToTeach
Is PassToTeach part of ACER or the government?
No. PassToTeach is an independent practice tool, not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), the Australian Government Department of Education, AITSL, or any university or teacher regulatory authority. ACER runs the LANTITE on the Australian Government's behalf; we use the name only to say which test we help you practise for. ACER "does not recommend or endorse any commercially available courses", and that includes ours.
Are PassToTeach questions taken from the LANTITE?
They aren't, and outside ACER nobody should have them. Live LANTITE questions are secure and vary from sitting to sitting "to ensure test integrity", and copying, memorising or sharing them is misconduct under ACER's rules. ACER's practice and retired questions are ACER's own work, so we don't copy or rework those either. Every text, question and dataset on PassToTeach is original, written to the format ACER publishes: 65 questions in 120 minutes per test, the same answer formats (single choice, statement grids, one typed word, numbers-only boxes), and a numeracy test with 52 calculator questions and 13 without. Every question was answered in a blind check that never saw our answer key, and any question a check found debatable was rewritten and checked again.
How is PassToTeach different from ACER's free practice material?
Start with ACER's material: it's ACER's own, and it's free. ACER's practice material includes sample questions, practice-question sets from 2017 and 2023, retired test questions, and a full 65-question practice test for each component, with worked solutions and a table that converts your raw score to below, around or above the standard. Registered candidates also get interactive online practice tests with reports, included in the registration fee.
ACER adds one caveat of its own: those score ranges are "indicative, not determinative", and they hold only on a first attempt, before you've seen the worked solutions. In practice that makes ACER's full test one clean reading per component.
PassToTeach adds rehearsals you can repeat:
- four full timed forms per component, each 65 questions in 120 minutes, with unlimited retakes on Elite;
- a numeracy section 1 with a calculator that behaves like ACER's, including the % key, and a section 2 with none, locked the moment you start it;
- a breakdown by the same seven sub-domains your ACER statement uses, banded by a method we publish.
Use both: ACER's material for ACER's own questions, ours for the repeats. Where to find each ACER resource, plus our free run: free LANTITE practice test.
Are PassToTeach tests as hard as the LANTITE?
No one outside ACER can promise that, because live questions are secure and change every sitting. We write to the difficulty mix in ACER's assessment framework, and our blind checks rated our literacy forms easier than that mix, about one level on the Australian Core Skills Framework by the checkers' estimates. So, until enough results from real candidates come in to recalibrate, our literacy "Above the standard" band starts higher than the range ACER publishes for its own practice test.
Can I use PassToTeach before I start my teaching degree?
Yes. You don't need to be enrolled anywhere or registered with ACER to practise with us. ACER has let people planning to enrol sit the LANTITE itself since April 2023, Year 11 and 12 students included; sitting before you enrol is optional.
Your practice results
Is my PassToTeach result an ACER result?
No. Every results screen carries the same header: "Practice result from our model — not an ACER result. ACER publishes no pass mark; it reports only whether you met the standard." We score all 65 questions, one mark each, then band each test and sub-domain as Below, Around or Above the standard, always marked "our estimate". The cut-offs are based on the raw-score ranges ACER publishes for its own practice tests, set slightly higher for literacy. On Elite, your percentile appears once 30 candidates have completed the same form. Only ACER's result counts for your degree or registration. The full method, with its version and date: how we score.

Should I take my free test in literacy or numeracy?
Your free test is one full timed test of your choice: create a free account, sit all 65 questions under the 120-minute clock, and see your score, your band and the first three rows of your breakdown. If you're unsure which, start with literacy. In 2025, 87.5% of first-time candidates met the literacy standard and 94.3% the numeracy standard (Department of Education), so literacy is the one more people miss first time.
LANTITE adjustments and exemptions
Can I get reasonable adjustments for the LANTITE?
Yes, you can apply for them, as long as you apply in time. ACER offers adjustments to how the test is presented (larger fonts, zoom), how you respond (text-to-speech, a reader or a scribe), the setting and the timing (extra time, rest breaks), and it has accessible test forms for screen readers on a platform that meets WCAG. You apply for each window separately, by that window's registration closing date: for 2027 Window 1, 5pm Melbourne time on 25 January 2027 (every window is on our LANTITE test dates page). Arrange it before the test, not after, because ACER gives no special consideration to results. How to apply: ACER's reasonable adjustments page. On PassToTeach, Starter's drills are untimed if you'd rather practise without the clock.
Is there a LANTITE exemption?
Generally, no. To be accredited, a teaching degree must confirm that pre-service teachers "are not eligible to graduate from the program without passing the LANTITE or showing First Nations language proficiency". That second route is the one alternative in the national standards: AITSL accepts high levels of Australian First Nations language proficiency instead of the LANTITE, and NESA recognises it in NSW. Some state rules outside the degree requirement differ. In NSW, holders of an ACECQA-approved birth-to-five qualification, overseas-qualified teachers and mutual-recognition applicants don't need the LANTITE for accreditation. In Victoria, applicants for early childhood teacher registration don't need it, though dual-registration applicants do. Check with your university and your regulator before you rely on any of these. Who has to sit it, and when: what the LANTITE is.
Plans, access and refunds
Is PassToTeach a subscription?
No. You pay once and get 12 months of access: Starter is A$39, Elite A$69, and Starter holders can upgrade to Elite for A$30. Prices are in Australian dollars and are the total you pay. Twelve months spans four LANTITE windows, which matters now that attempts are unlimited: if you need a re-sit, your plan is still running.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. Every plan comes with a 7-day money-back guarantee: ask within 7 days of a charge and we refund that charge in full. You don't need to give a reason, so it covers a change of mind. Email [email protected] from your account email address. The guarantee is an extra promise on top of your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, not a substitute for them. After 7 days we don't refund because you changed your mind or because of your LANTITE result, but if our product fails a consumer guarantee you can still claim a remedy under the Australian Consumer Law, whenever that happens. The full wording is in our Terms.
